It is a big step to change your lifestyle, be more healthy, eat better and be more active. The challenge is that out there, you can find million and one different advice on what to do.
Most experts try to tell you that their way is the right way. That´s OK, because it worked for them, but it doesnt mean that it will work for you and me.
I believe that every individual needs to find their own balance based on who they are. Not everyone likes to jog or do yoga or pilates.
Find your lifestyle balance with mindfulness
Before finding the lifestyle balance it is necessary to increase your mindfulness. That´s where the journey towards lifestyle balance starts.
Start by considering these 3 things to find your lifestyle balance.
1. Food: That makes you feel alive
It is easy to eat foods that sedate, numb or intoxicate you. From refined sugars, processed, chemical-laden and heavy foods. From experience a food journal is a perfect way to be more mindful about what you eat. Usually we are on our food autopilot and habit. I will cover this in a separate blog.
The state of mind that we are in, when we are about to eat, is also important.
When tired, stressed and sad it´s more likely to indulge in foods that intoxicate.
2. Move: The right activity for you
Lacking physical activity we become disconnected from our bodies and the intuition it brings. This affects our choice of food with constant access to foods low in nutrition. Start by finding ways in your daily life to be more active. As an example, I have the policy of taking the stairs wherever I can instead of the elevator. One of the best activities and that only takes time, is walking. Research shows that taking long walks are both good for your mind as well as your body.
There is an enormous offering of activities available. This includes yoga, pilates to playing tennis or even doing karate. Its all about trying and experimenting and finding your “thing”.
I will show some of the activities that I think are interesting and worth trying in a later blog.
3. Sleep: Find your sleep balance
Poor sleeping habits usually leads to bad food choices and no energy to be active. Its a vicious cycle that a lot of people get into and don´t know how to get out of. Breaking habits is hard and I will cover this in a separate blog.
Sleep insufficiency can cause chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, depression and obesity. A reduced quality of life and productivity. One of the main reasons:
The liver carries out important work in our sleep, especially between 10pm and 2am. Including detoxification and filtering out toxins from the body. If not, the toxins return to the blood stream and cause imbalances and a host of disorders. This capacity of the body to regain and recoup during our sleep is critical to our health.
There are guidelines on how much sleep everyone needs. Still you need to find your own sleep balance. This I will cover in a separate blog.
Conclusion
By starting to focus on these three areas and you will likely be on your way to a better balance in life.
