Whether you think about it or not, everyone somehow is trying to find their right balance in life. As mentioned, finding that balance is individual. It depends on each and everyones situation in life and character.
It is worth answering what is a balanced lifestyle? For me the simple answer is finding that equilibrium between yourself, work and family. Not feeling guilty or stressed about anything in your life.
Also finding balance between what you do, your relationships, work and activities. And what or who you are, that is reflecting on yourself and being healthy in mind and body.
Here are 9 simple ways to help you realigning or starting your journey to a balance in your lifestyle:
1. Honesty
A good place to start is looking within. How are you feeling? What are you thinking? For me taking long walks help me often to reflect on this and notice where I am missing out. What do I need to do? Be honest with yourself, otherwise you will always be chasing your own tail.
2. Weighing the Balance
After being honest with yourself, its about finding where you need to find more balance. Are you working too much? Are you spending all your efforts on yourself and neglecting family, friends and work? Are there specific areas that you feel could be in more balance?
3. Have a Goal
Set your self goals on what you want to do to find your balance. Prioritise them, meaning don´t try to achieve them all at once. Start with a simple goal. This will give you a the sense of accomplishment and motivate you to continue to achieve your goals.
4. Plan
Break your goals into tasks that you have to do to achieve your goals. Did you achieve your goals? If not, do you need to re-evaluate your goals?
5. Reflect
Try to think of your accomplishment in the past. Which one is the most important? How did you achieve it? What made you stay focused on this goal? Did you have to manage self doubt or negative self talk? Or were you 100% confident that you would achieve this goal? How does it make you feel to have achieved this goal?
6. Preparation
What is it that makes you not achieve your goals? Are there any habits that are hard to break? Do you keep postponing? Can you see what it is that makes you hold back? Make a note of it.
7. Be Good to yourself
Try to be good to yourself. How can you help yourself change a bad habit into a good habit? Don´t punish yourself if you fail at your goal. Find power in realizing what you need to do to change to achieve the goal.
8. Find a Connection
What can you do to stay motivated and focused on your goals? Is there someone you could connect with and share your thoughts? It is always better to share your thoughts, challenges and achievements. That way you are more likely to succeed.
9. Make a long term Plan
As with anything in life, it takes time. It will take time and effort to change your habits into better ones. It will at least take you 3 months to create new habits that will make your life more balanced.
